from the RiP tHe sYsteM dept. For the past few years I have been trying to get custody of my son Christian. However it appears the system is going to wreck this.... Christian was almost killed as a baby by his demented mother. At the time I had no idea where she was and had not been able to contact her. So, when she was arrested my son and his 2 siblings were taken by the state and placed in foster care. There is no policy to track down fathers when this happens. Eventually all the children wound up being placed with the mother's half sister who ain't a whole lot different from the mother. Two years ago they decided to adopt the kids. By federal law all the fathers needed to be tracked down to sign off their parental rights. That was when I found out what had happened to my son. I had to appear in court and explain my absence and was ultimately found innocent of any wrongdoing. I was then granted a visit with my son. After that visit I decided not to allow the adoption because he is my son. Not to mention it wasn't exactly brilliant for the state to place the kids with the mothers family when the mother is not supposed to have any contact with them. So to make a long story short - here we are a few years later. My son wants to live with me. The judge wants to give him to me. But the state of Virginia says I can't have him because of some minor misdemeanor on my criminal record. Lets put this into perspective. I was in the military and they didn't care about what was on my record. I am now employed as a federal contractor with Uncle Sam and he don't care what's on my record. So now my family is being kept apart by stupid archaic laws that have no place in the world anymore and somehow this is supposed to be making the state of Virginia a safer place to live? What makes this even worse is that the social services agency here in Virginia Beach does have the option to overlook such matters at their discretion, but they chose not to do that..... This is what paying your taxes and being a veteran in your country gets you! Enjoy!< | >
